One of my favorite spots in Madrid is La Bicicleta. The neighborhood is great, crash down in a comfy couch after shopping in Calle Fuencarral and the little streets of Malasaña. The atmosphere in this place is super relaxing, hang with your friends and have a beer, or take your laptop with you to do some work. And I love the interior. All chairs and couches are super old and just randomly put together, but they are so comfy and the place looks so homey because of this. When you’re hungry take a salad or the delicious tortilla de patatas.
What is not to like about a book store with a coffee/lunch spot inside where you can immediately dive into your new bought books! This bookstore in the centre of Madrid is a beautiful old three floor building where you can easily spent a few hours sniffing between all the books, notebooks and other stuff they are selling.
What I thought was going to be a normal go see on a normal afternoon a couple of weeks ago in Madrid, turned out to be a great afternoon doing a great test shoot with a great photographer and a great result!!
Mercado de San Miguel is an indoor market next to Plaza Mayor. I really like Plaza Mayor, it is an amazing and impressive plaza to see, and I love all the little balconies from the apartments with the plaza view. But I don’t really like all the terraces at Plaza Mayor, there are mostly tourists and the restaurants charge tourist prices as well. But just around the corner of Plaza Mayor you find the really nice Mercado de San Miguel. Of course, located in this area, this is not a cheap place as well, but at least its super cool!
Two years ago when I was in Madrid I already spent a significant amount of time in this shop. And now that I’m back here, of course I went straight to this amazing place again. The thing is, I love concept stores! You can easily spend a few hours in these kind of shops, because they have a little bit of everything; clothes, jewelry, cutlery, office supplies and much more. If your done with buying clothes, move on to some amazing things for your house and go on like this for a while.
Wanna have one of the best coffees in Madrid, go to Toma Café! It is a super cute little coffee shop in Malasaña. Hipster Madrid is cycling to this place and getting their morning, afternoon or evening coffee.
This summer there is again a pop-up concept store in Palacio de Santa Bárbara, Manzana Mahou 330. This is a great hidden spot to hang out on a sunny afternoon.
I was reading in the Dutch Marie Claire, the section design hotels in Europe under 100 euro per night. And the Praktik Metropol Hotel in Madrid immediately caught my eye. And I thought I have to check out this Hotel!!
Summer is here! And the best thing about that is, that the festival season in Holland is here! I’m such a big fan of festivals. Being in the sun, dancing to great music, eating and drinking with your friends, throwing paint/color powder on each other and playing grandma bingo.
A few weeks ago I was in Basel on a family trip. I had never been to Basel and didn’t think the city would be that great. But that turned out to be different then I thought.
